What Time, I Mean Day, Is It? Also, Recipes

I keep remembering at random times that Swistle asked for the spinach cheese egg squares I made for brunch the other week, and not knowing how to work it into a post (because you know, my posts are otherwise so coherently composed and organized.) Then Anne asked for the edamame sauce recipe that I thought I linked to in this post, but I had not.

The spinach square recipe is here.

The ginger garlic edamame recipe is here.

I went through my considerable stash of notebooks a while ago and put one in the spare room to keep track of yoga and one beside my bed to use as a one-line journal. The yoga one has been fantastic - I rate them all according to difficulty and how they feel, and whenever I want a certain Yoga with Adriene that I liked I can actually find it now. The one beside my bed I used two or three times and then forgot about, which is why I can't remember what the hell I did last week. Sucks when the reason you need something is the reason you also can't remember to use something.

Oh wait, I do remember, because today is Monday. I thought it was Friday. Did I remember to go to work this morning? Yes I did. See, we went to pick up Eve in Hamilton at the beginning of last week and we were there for three days which made it feel like a weekend, and we've been chronologically screwed ever since. I woke up late Saturday morning and Matt walked in the room and I was confused as hell about why he wasn't at work.

Look, here she is on her first day of kindergarten.

Look, here she is back home after her last day of undergrad.

Excuse me while I say a bunch of obvious stuff. This is WEIRD. It's not precisely like it all went so fast. I'm used to her not living here during the school year. It feels like quite a while ago that she was in kindergarten.

On the other hand, WHAT THE FUCK.

I don't feel like doing a whole big thing right now. I actually stopped blogging for a bit because I was feeling weirdly panicky about it, like I was suddenly in a competition and falling behind. Also I got sick and the pain in my left knee has sort of morphed into also a pain in my left foot. BUT, unlike a few weeks ago when I would have thought this meant everything would suck forever, and now I know this is a couple of annoying things that will resolve, probably in the near future.

Anyway, this is me dipping my toe back in. As a reward for reading this mess, I will tell you about Aurora from my grade one Monday school class. She is a cute, petite Chinese girl and for the first half of the year she was very shy and would only ever say her name for me to sign out her book (plus she couldn't pronounce her Rs so she said Auwowa, which was excruciatingly adorable). After Christmas she found her voice, and now regales me with various assorted tales and facts every library period. A couple of weeks ago she bounced in and said "do you know that I got a boyfriend?" I said "oh. Good for you? Is he in your class?" She said "yeah! It's Noah!" (Noah is one of a pair of identical twins, whose parents dress him and his brother Zayn the same.) When the teacher came in I said "Aurora said she has a boyfriend." The teacher said "oh yes, it's Noah. Or possibly Zayn. I'm not sure she can tell the difference any more than we can." When I was home I went to Eve's room to tell her that I had suddenly been struck by the realization that Aurora started asking for books about space a couple of weeks ago, right after Noah and Zayn got a telescope. Girlfriend is brushing up on her man's interests - clearly this six-year-old has some game. Today she brought a space book to the counter and I said "oh! You found the space section by yourself this week." and she said "no, Noah helped me! My boyfriend!"

Also I finally watched Downton Abbey, so brace for a bunch of seriously outdated references.

OMG love Downton Abbey, am here for it, may rewatch just so I can talk about it again.
Aurora! I love her!
It's insane Eve is done with undergrad. I kind of forgot what she's doing next year, sorry, is she going to grad school? I feel like she is but I'm fuzzy on the details?

Omg - both photos are so beautiful. Congrats to Eve on finishing undergrad!

Awowa! The entire anecdote about her and her boyfriend is so cute!

What an adorable kindergarten pic! And Auwowa is hilarious. Congratulations to Eve - that did fly by. I am going to try that spinach cheese square recipe next week when I have my sisters up at my cottage. Looks yummy.

Those spinach-egg squares look good.

Yesterday I was wondering if it was trash/recycling/compost night (Thursday) and I thought, no it's only Tuesday. It was Monday.

Congrats to Eve!

Wait...should I be brushing up on my husband's interests? Because I have to admit that looking into guitars and running sounds boring as hell. Have I been outclassed by a tiny elementary school girl?

I think you can relax once you have him locked down.

Time has lost all meaning.
Thank you for those heartwarming photos and the story about Aurora. And I am ALL IN for references to Downton Abbey.

I am getting caught up on a whole bunch of posts. Thank you for the recipe!! I can't believe your grown girl. I am SO READY for Downton Abbey talk. I have been struggling with blogging too.

I’m glad you’re dipping your toes back in, I hope it’s feeling like a safe, non-competitive space. Sometimes I blog every day, I have so much to say, and sometimes I go months without saying anything. Currently I am really behind on reading and commenting.

LOVE Downton Abbey, and am HERE for any and all discussion forthwith.

Your Downton Abbey comments will go right over my head - so no worries about that. Also? Is there anything cuter than kindergarteners? Seriously - age 5-6 is awesome. They're so curious and engaged and just darn... fun. I wouldn't want a whole classroom of them, but that's mostly a me-thing. :) Thanks for the recipes!
