Walking and Sweating

I did not go for a walk after work today. It was hot out, my mom had already walked Lucy (I drop her at their place while I'm working because she is an extremely spoiled dog) and my Monday school offers ample opportunity for getting steps in.

It is quite a long walk in from the parking lot.

It is a long-ish walk from the end of the school to the front door, or from the servery door, where I usually enter, to the library.

Once I am in the library, the distance from the desk to the end of the shelves (a distance I cover multiple times during the day) is not inconsiderable.

I did not realize until today how long and flat this school and library is.

I kind of like that the very last book in the non-fiction section is about Antarctica.

The pictures from all my other walks from October 1st until yesterday are all pretty similar - leaves changing even though the temperature remains stubbornly, stickily, dystopically warm.

At my parents' place after work I said it looked like next weekend (when we'll all be together for Thanksgiving -the Canadian version) was going to be nice, my mom said "cooler" and I said "that's what I mean by nice."

Tonight I am browning a bunch of ground beef and pork to make taco meat (homemade seasoning), beef taco skillet, (I make it with more spieces) and vietnamese caramelised pork for next weekend when the kids are home (Angus is coming home for Canadian Thanksgiving for the first time in literally years. Eve said "omg, we're getting the band back together?)

That tweet reminds me of when we opened the local paper and saw a picture of Angus with his cooking class visiting a local butcher and getting to help them make a turducken. I was like "we asked you what happened that day and you said 'nothing' - A TURDUCKEN).

Lucy.

Everyone's coming home! That's lovely.
It is literally SWELTERING out. I was sitting talking outside with a friend and I could feel LITERAL DROPS OF SWEAT falling off my legs and hitting the ground. It is October 6th. What is going on??
Also, it is supposed to rain and get cold when Kae and Sarah come visit me. I'm a poor excuse of a blogger if I can't get the weather to cooperate. SIGH. But we desperately need rain as the wildfire situation in Nova Scotia is pretty grim in our local area right now.
On to happier things. What pretty pictures. Lucy always looks so content and snuggly. And I am so glad you are getting a cooler Thanksgiving so you can feel a bit cozier with your reunited "band."

The timing of Canadian Thanksgiving is yet another reason to admire Canada. It just makes SO MUCH MORE SENSE to have a big family & travel holiday before the weather is likely to be slippy (as they say here).

Those long hallways remind me of the Denver, Colorado airport, a place I spent some time at last month. The one terminal I was in was a mile long, I think, and had not a single affordable piece of food.

Thank you for the photos of the leaves. So purty. Lucy looks very wise in this photo.

Oh hooray! The band, back together!!!

Like CMH, I too would like to switch to Canadian Thanksgiving. Less crammed-together-holiday stress and, it seems, less stress in general.

I love your Monday school and all the gorgeous photos. In the second tree photo, the short yellow tree looks like a little leafy person dancing.

How wonderful to have both kids home for the holiday.

I always like seeing photos of your school libraries and imagining you there.

Your leaves are ahead of ours. Very few have turned. I am looking forward to it though because yesterday I let Walter out into the back yard and a few leaves fell from the tree he was standing under and he was entranced and kept pouncing on them after they were on the ground. I'd like to see that again. He's such a goofball.

My husband always says nothing happened at work. ALWAYS. And then I learn all these fabulous things about him and it's very frustrating. Is that a guy thing?

In that first yellow leaf photo, it looks like a kid dressed up as a leaf monster! Well, that's what I see, anyway. Thanks for sharing the pretty pictures. I'm hoping to see some good leaf color while I'm in NY.

Yeah, it is dry! We got rain yesterday and it is cooler finally. Usually I think there has to be red for good leaf pics, but I am liking the yellow.

Holy crap, I'm shocked that I didn't see it right away.

I always feel desperate sympathy for my American friends who have to go all out for Thanksgiving and then immediately start preparing for Christmas. Clearly the timing was thought up by men.

Okay, not only did I miss that in the picture at first, but I missed that you had said that before CCR said it - I am losing it. I can't stop looking at that picture now. So fun.

That is a really fun image. I love walking when the leaves are raining down from the trees. It's never not magical to me.

Based on my very small sample size? Yes.

You are for sure getting in some steps!
The trees do look very fall-like! It's lovely here today, at a mere 79*. I mean, still hot, but not sweltering.
I love it when the Band gets back together. I wish I had someone to drop off Peanut and Biscuit while we're away. They act like they're neglected. Bitches be like that.

Unloading. Or load-shifting.

I don't want to jinx it, but after a few months of feeling just deeply disinclined to attack any of the chaos in my house, I seem to be ...
